Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF)

The programming period 2021-2027 of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) was established with the Regulation (UE) No 2021/1147 of the European Parliament and of the Council from 7 July 2021.

It promotes the efficient management of migration flows and the implementation, strengthening and development of a common Union approach to asylum and immigration. This Fund contributes to the achievement of four specific objectives:

(a) strengthening and developing all aspects of the Common European Asylum System, including its external dimension;

(b) strengthening and developing legal migration to the Member States in accordance with their economic and social needs, and promoting and contributing to the effective integration and social inclusion of third-country nationals;

(c) contributing to countering irregular migration, enhancing effective, safe and dignified return and readmission, and promoting and contributing to effective initial reintegration in third countries;

(d) enhancing solidarity and fair sharing of responsibility between the Member States, in particular as regards those most affected by migration and asylum challenges, including through practical cooperation.

In Luxembourg, the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MAEE) is the responsible authority for the implementation of the 2021-2027 Fund. The Department of Integration of the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region (MIFA) is the delegated authority.

The National Reception Office (ONA) and the Directorate of Immigration participate in the Fund’s implementation through their membership in the Fund’s steering committee.

The National Reception Office ("Office National de l'Accueil", ONA) is in charge of implementing actions for applicants for international protection and beneficiaries of international protection, as well as for beneficiaries of temporary protection, as provided for in the national program’s framework under specific objective 1 "Common European Asylum System".
